Wed 25th Apr – How Mudeford became a Resort

The speaker is Mike Andrews, a local historian.

His talk is about the Grand Houses that were built during the 18th and 19th centuries by the rich aristocrats who chose to make Mudeford the place where they came “to take the waters”.

AGM and Talk – The Pun is Mightier than the Sword

The talk includes 40mins of excruciating puns shamelessly and outrageously taking liberties with the English language, leaving you helpless with laughter, or perhaps, wishing the invitation to talk on the subject had never been offered.

Wed 27th Jun – Dad’s Army: Fact and Fiction

Steve Roberts gives an affectionate look at both the Home Guard and its portrayal in the popular TV series Dad’s Army.

He looks at the real Home Guard, why it was formed and what it did, with popular myths dispelled in the process. Did you know the Home Guard lost over 1600 members killed on duty? The talk attempts to be lively and fun as well as set the record straight.

Wed 11th Jul – Around the World in Music and Pictures

Christopher LeGrand has delivered a number of enjoyable, illustrated talks to the Association in the past.

This presentation brings together a wide variety of well and lesser known music from different countries around the world and is illustrated with an exciting mix of pictorial scenes and events.

Wed 8th Aug – The Marie Celeste: A Mystery of the Sea

7.30pm New Milton Community Centre

Howard Nichols will present his research into the abandonment of the Marie Celeste and the part Captain Spooner Briggs and his crew played. Where does she lie now and how has a world renowned author set about finding her?

Thurs 16th Aug – Outing: Savill Gardens and Frogmore House

Booking is required.

Frogmore is a royal retreat, still used by the royal family for private entertaining, and can only be viewed as part of a pre-booked group. During August the rose garden and herbaceous borders are at their best in Savill Gardens.

Wed 5th Sept – Stourhead to Stanpit

Take a journey down the river Stour and learn of all the amazing things that have happened along its banks over the last 1000 years.
