The speaker is Ron Taylor who seeks to enlighten and entertain rather than lecture.

The presentation will range across the Spanish, French and Italian Islands with their differing cultures, foods and events, along with the historical figures, such as Nelson, Napoleon and others whose lives have been influenced by them.

Wed 24th Jan – The Artist’s Rifles – Pre-Raphaelites to Passchendale

Steve Marshall was the curator of the exhibition on the Artist’s Rifles held at Southampton Art Gallery in 2014.

He will reveal the fascinating and unlikely story of the Artist’s Rifles Regiment formed in 1860 by stars of the Victorian art world. They transformed the artists into volunteer riflemen who, during the First World War, trained officers for the British Army before serving in the front line at Passchendale.

David Stocks was formerly a room guide at Hill Top, Beatrix’s house in the Lake District.

His talk is about her life and family, giving insights into her upbringing, her conservation efforts, the writing of her children’s stories and her involvement with the National Trust.

How this organisation works to save lives in our area. Amazing stories of rescue feats not only at motorway accidents, but also at inaccessible areas in the forest and on the coast where ambulances cannot reach.

Jeremy Waters gives an illustrated talk covering the extraordinary history of Flying Boats 1939-1945.
